How to Register and Apply for CLAT 2027

CLAT uses a straightforward single-stage online application. There is no multi-step registration like some medical entrance exams. Candidates can save their form mid-way and return to finish it before the deadline, which makes the process flexible for those who need to gather documents over a few days.

  • Step 1: Go to consortiumofnlus.ac.in and click 'Register'. Enter your mobile number and email address. An OTP is sent to the mobile for verification.
  • Step 2: After OTP verification, set a password. The Consortium sends login credentials to the registered email. Keep the mobile number and email active through the entire admission cycle, since all communication goes through them.
  • Step 3: Log in and start filling the application form. Enter personal details (name, parents' names, date of birth, category), communication address (permanent and correspondence), and academic qualifications (Class 10 and Class 12 details, or graduation details for PG applicants).
  • Step 4: Select up to three exam centre cities in order of preference. The Consortium assigns the final centre based on preference and seat availability. Popular cities fill up fast, so applying early gives better centre choices.
  • Step 5: Select your reservation and domicile status. This matters because several NLUs reserve seats for candidates domiciled in their home state.
  • Step 6: Upload required documents: a recent colour passport-size photograph (up to 500 KB, JPEG/JPG), a signature scan (up to 100 KB, JPEG/JPG), and a domicile certificate if claiming domicile reservation (up to 2 MB, JPEG/JPG/PDF).
  • Step 7: Pay the application fee online. The form is not considered submitted until the fee is paid.
  • Step 8: Review all entries and submit. Download the confirmation page for your records.

The form does not need to be completed in one sitting. Candidates can save progress and return later using the same login credentials. However, the final submission with fee payment must happen before the deadline.

Documents Required for CLAT 2027 Application

CLAT asks for fewer uploaded documents than many government entrance exams. Mark sheets and certificates are not uploaded during registration. They are verified later during counselling when candidates report to their allotted NLU. At the application stage, only the photograph, signature, and domicile certificate (where applicable) need to be uploaded.

Document Format and Size When Required
Photograph JPEG / JPG, up to 500 KB, recent colour passport-size During application
Signature JPEG / JPG, up to 100 KB During application
Domicile Certificate JPEG / JPG / PDF, up to 2 MB During application (if claiming domicile reservation)
Class 10 and 12 Mark Sheets Originals + photocopies At counselling and admission
Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/BPL) Original issued by competent authority At counselling (if claiming reservation)
Valid Photo ID Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, PAN, or Driving Licence At exam centre and counselling

CLAT 2027 Application Correction Window

The Consortium opens a correction window after the registration deadline, giving candidates a short period to fix errors in their submitted forms. For CLAT 2027, candidates could edit test location preferences until November 9, 2025 (11:59 PM), two days after the extended last date. During this window, candidates log in, make changes to the fields allowed for editing, tick the declaration checkbox, and click Save.

  • Fields typically editable: test centre preferences, certain personal details, and category or reservation status under the 'Category and Seat Reservation' tab.
  • Fields typically not editable: name, date of birth, and uploaded photograph or signature (these require contacting the Consortium's helpline directly).
  • After the correction window closes, no further changes are accepted through the portal.

Candidates who spot a serious error after the window closes should call the CLAT helpline at +91-80471-62020 for guidance, though the Consortium does not guarantee changes at that stage.

Choosing NLU Preferences and Exam Centres During CLAT 2027 Registration

CLAT is one of the few entrance exams where exam centre selection and NLU preference selection both happen at the application stage. The exam centre decision affects where the candidate writes the paper, while the NLU preferences matter later during counselling and seat allotment. Getting both right at the time of registration saves candidates from avoidable issues later.

  • Exam centre: candidates can pick up to three cities in order of preference. The Consortium assigns the final centre based on availability. Centres in large cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata fill up early. Applying in the first few weeks of the registration window gives better odds of getting the first-choice city.
  • NLU preferences: while the application form collects domicile and reservation details, the actual NLU preference list (ranking which NLU you want first, second, and so on) is filled during the counselling stage after results are out, not during registration. However, the domicile and category information entered during registration determines which NLU-specific reserved seats a candidate is eligible for during counselling.

Several NLUs reserve a portion of their seats for candidates domiciled in the state where the university is located. For example, a candidate domiciled in Gujarat has access to domicile-reserved seats at GNLU Gandhinagar that a candidate from another state does not. Entering the wrong domicile state or forgetting to upload the domicile certificate during registration can cost a candidate these reserved seats later.

Submitting More Than One CLAT Application Form

The Consortium allows candidates to submit more than one application, but only the last submitted form is treated as valid. All previously submitted forms are automatically cancelled, and the fee paid for those earlier forms is not refunded. This means a candidate who made a major error in the first form and cannot fix it through the correction window can submit a fresh application with the correct details, but will lose the fee from the first attempt.

The Consortium's official instructions recommend filling the form carefully the first time to avoid this situation. Double-checking the name, date of birth, and category against Class 10 certificates before clicking Submit is the simplest way to prevent a costly resubmission.

After Submitting CLAT 2027 Application

Once the form is submitted and the fee is paid, the next step is the admit card. CLAT 2027 admit cards were released on November 25, 2025, through the candidate's login on consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Candidates must print the admit card and carry it along with a valid photo ID to the exam centre. After the exam, the Consortium releases a provisional answer key within a few days. Candidates can raise objections by paying Rs 500 per challenge (refundable if the objection is accepted). The final answer key, result, and All India Rank are published after the objection review, followed by online counselling for seat allotment across 24 NLUs.

CLAT Application Form 2027 FAQs

Ques: Can I apply for both CLAT UG and CLAT PG using the same form?

Ans: No. UG and PG are separate application forms with separate fees. A candidate eligible for both must fill and pay for each form independently on consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

Ques: I submitted my CLAT form with the wrong category. Can I change it?

Ans: If the correction window is still open, log in and update the category under the 'Category and Seat Reservation' tab. If the window has closed, contact the CLAT helpline at +91-80471-62020. The Consortium does not guarantee changes after the correction period ends.

Ques: Is the domicile certificate mandatory for all CLAT applicants?

Ans: No. It is needed only if you are claiming domicile-based reservation at an NLU that offers state-specific reserved seats. If you are applying under the general or open category without any domicile claim, you can skip uploading it.

Ques: I paid the CLAT fee but my form still shows as incomplete. What should I do?

Ans: Wait for an hour on the same login page, as the payment gateway sometimes takes time to update the status. If it still shows incomplete after that, check your bank statement for the deduction. If the amount was debited, raise a support ticket through the CLAT portal with the transaction reference number.

Ques: Can candidates from any academic stream apply for CLAT UG?

Ans: Yes. CLAT UG is open to candidates from all streams, whether Science, Commerce, or Arts. The only requirement is passing or appearing in Class 12 from a recognised board with the minimum marks specified for the candidate's category (45% for General/OBC, 40% for SC/ST).
