OPSC OCS GS Paper 1 Marking Scheme & Negative Marking

  • Each GS Paper-I question carries equal marks. With 100 questions for 200 marks, each correct answer is worth 2 marks.
  • For every wrong answer, a negative marking of one-third (1/3) of the marks assigned to that question is deducted — i.e. approximately 0.67 marks per wrong answer in GS Paper-I.
  • Unattempted questions carry no penalty (zero marks deducted).
  • Marking more than one option for a question is treated as a wrong answer.

How to Calculate Your Score Using the GS Paper 1 Answer Key

Once the official answer key is out, estimate your GS Paper-I score with this simple formula:

Score = (Correct × 2) − (Wrong × 0.67)

  1. Count the number of correct answers and multiply by 2.
  2. Count the number of wrong answers and multiply by 0.67.
  3. Subtract the negative total from the correct total.
  4. Leave out unattempted questions — they neither add nor deduct marks.

This gives a close estimate of your probable GS Paper-I score even before the result is declared.
