  • Negative marking applies: ¼ mark deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying in nature: you must secure the minimum to be eligible for Mains; only Paper I marks count for shortlisting.
  • At least one‐third of Paper I questions relate specifically to Uttarakhand.

UKPSC PCS Mains 2025 is descriptive in nature and covers eight papers. These papers are intended to evaluate the candidates depth of subject knowledge, analytical ability, writing skills, and understanding of Uttarakhand-specific issues. Check below the detailed syllabus of UKPSC PCS Mains 2025:

Paper 1 – General Hindi (150 Marks):

  • शब्द-रचना: उपसर्ग, प्रत्यय, सन्धि, समास
  • शब्द-विभाजन: तत्सम, तद्भव, देशज, विदेशी, पर्यायवाची, विलोम, अनेकार्थी शब्द
  • वाक्य-रचना: सरल, मिश्र, संयुक्त वाक्य, कर्तृवाच्य, कर्मवाच्य, भाववाच्य रूपों में परिवर्तन
  • मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियाँ: अर्थ एवं वाक्य में प्रयोग
  • पत्र-लेखन: औपचारिक एवं अनौपचारिक पत्र 
  • प्रतिवेदन लेखन: सरकारी/गैर-सरकारी घटनाओं पर हिन्दी में रिपोर्ट लेखन
  • अनुवाद: हिन्दी ↔ अंग्रेजी (प्रशासनिक शब्दावली)
  • अपठित गद्यांश पर आधारित बोध-प्रश्न
  • सार/संक्षेपण/विस्तार: साहित्य, तकनीकी, भाषण, रिपोर्ट आदि का सार लेखन

Paper 2 – Essay (150 Marks):

  • Essay writing on topics from three sub-sections:

    Section A: Literature & Culture, Social sphere, Political sphere, Economy (Agriculture, Industry, Trade)

    Section B: Science, Environment & Technology, National/International Events, Major Natural Calamities, National Development Programmes

    Section C: Issues specific to Uttarakhand — social structure, history, culture, art & literature, economy & geography (tourism, migration), environment & disaster management, women empowerment

  • Essays should be of 700-800 words each, one essay to be selected from each sub-section
  • Evaluation based on language accuracy, original thought, coherence & presentation

Paper 3 – General Studies I: Indian Heritage & Culture, History, Geography & Society (200 Marks):

  • Indian culture: salient aspects of art forms, literature, architecture (ancient to modern)
  • Modern Indian history (from mid-18th century to present): major events, personalities, issues
  • The Freedom Struggle – different phases and contributors from all parts of India
  • Post-Independence consolidation and re-organisation in India
  • World history: major events from 18th century (Industrial Revolution, world wars, decolonisation, political philosophies)
  • Indian society: structure, diversity, role of women, population issues, urbanisation, regional disparities
  • Effects of Globalisation on Indian society, social empowerment, communalism, regionalism, secularism
  • Physical geography of the world, distribution of natural resources, geophysical phenomena (earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami, etc.)

Paper 4 – General Studies II: Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice & International Relations (200 Marks):

  • Indian Constitution: historical background, features, amendments, basic structure
  • Union & State government – powers, functions, federal structure, devolution, finance & governance issues, Separation of powers, parliamentary & state legislatures, executive & judiciary structure, functioning, Representation of People Act, constitutional bodies, regulatory & quasi-judicial bodies
  • Governance: transparency, accountability, e-governance, citizen’s charters, role of civil services, Welfare schemes for vulnerable sections, issues relating to poverty, hunger, health, education
  • India & its neighbourhood: bilateral relations, regional/global groupings & agreements, Indian diaspora
