RRB Group D 2026 Level 1 Posts and Vacancies

CEN 09/2025 covers Level 1 posts across several Indian Railways departments: Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Pointsman-B, Assistant (S&T), Assistant (TRD), Assistant (Bridge), Assistant (P-Way), Assistant (Carriage & Wagon), Assistant (Track Machine), Assistant Loco Shed, Assistant Operations, and Assistant TL & AC, together making up the 22,195 vacancies for this cycle. Track Maintainer Grade-IV and Pointsman-B have carried the largest share of vacancies in recent Group D cycles, going by past post-wise patterns, though the exact 2026 post-wise split should be checked against the official notification PDF rather than assumed from earlier years. Candidates assigned 3 August, the very first date of this cycle, are effectively the first to test how smoothly centres and biometric checks work this time around.

Note: Candidates should also note that admit cards this cycle are released zone by zone rather than all at once, so a friend or relative appearing on the same date from a different RRB zone may see their call letter go live at a slightly different time.

RRB Group D 2026 Exam Pattern

All four sections are compulsory and carry equal weight per question, with one mark for every correct answer.

Section Questions Marks
General Science 25 25
Mathematics 25 25
General Intelligence and Reasoning 30 30
General Awareness and Current Affairs 20 20
Total 100 100

RRB Group D 2026 Minimum Qualifying Marks

The qualifying threshold is fixed by rule and does not change no matter how a particular shift's paper turns out.

Category Minimum Qualifying Marks
UR, EWS 40 percent
OBC, SC, ST, PwBD 30 percent

With one third of a mark deducted for every wrong answer across 100 questions in 90 minutes, attempting only the questions a candidate is reasonably confident about tends to matter more than attempting all of them.

RRB Group D Difficulty Level, 3 August 2026 (Available Now)

Difficulty depends on the actual question set given to each shift, so this cannot be rated before the exam happens. Ratings will replace the placeholders here once the shifts on this date are conducted.

Shift Difficulty Level
Shift 1 (9 AM to 10:30 AM) Easy to Moderate
Shift 2 (12:45 PM to 2:15 PM) To be updated
Shift 3 (5 PM to 6:30 PM) To be updated
Overall for this date To be updated

RRB Group D 2026 Exam Day Guidelines

A few instructions candidates assigned 3 August 2026 should keep in mind.

  • Reach the exam centre well before the reporting time printed on the admit card, since gate entry closes before the shift begins.
  • Mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices and other electronic gadgets are not allowed inside the centre.
  • Confirm the allotted shift, centre and reporting time on the individual admit card rather than relying on a general shift table.
  • Carry the printed admit card along with an original Aadhaar card, or a printout of e-verified Aadhaar with the Aadhaar unlocked in the UIDAI system, since biometric authentication is mandatory at entry, and this is the first date centres are running it this cycle.
  • Certain posts under this cycle, such as Assistant Loco Shed and Assistant TL & AC, carry additional trade-certificate checks at a later stage, so keep any ITI or apprenticeship certificate at hand even though it plays no role in the CBT itself.

RRB Group D Cutoff Structure

As an illustration of how much cutoffs can vary by zone, RRB Kolkata's 2022 cycle cutoff (normalised, out of 100) was around 96.6 for UR, 94.9 for OBC, 90.7 for SC, 85.5 for EWS and 83.8 for ST. These figures are specific to that one zone and year, not a national benchmark, since every RRB zone sets its own cutoff based on its own vacancies, applicant pool and shift difficulty. For CEN 09/2025, the cutoff covers every shift across the entire 3 to 25 August window together through RRB's normalisation process, so it cannot be set separately for 3 August 2026 alone. Zone-wise cutoffs for this cycle will be released only once the full CBT window concludes and results are declared: To be updated.

Preparation Strategy for the Remaining Time

With the exam only a few days away, the focus should shift from learning new topics to sharpening recall speed.

  • Practice full-length mock tests timed to 90 minutes to build comfort with the pace needed across all four sections.
  • Plan the journey to the centre, particularly for candidates travelling from another district or state for their shift.
  • Keep a daily current affairs habit going for General Awareness, since this section can shift quickly closer to the exam date.
  • Review the post preferences submitted during application, since different posts can carry different medical standards later even though the CBT itself is common to all of them.
  • Keep both a printed and a digital copy of the admit card and Aadhaar handy, since this is the first date centres are processing this cycle's entry checks.

RRB Group D 2026 opens its revised CBT schedule on 3 August with the same 100-question, 90-minute format and one-third negative marking that the notification confirmed for CEN 09/2025, across Level 1 posts spanning Track Maintainer, Pointsman-B and several Assistant categories. Difficulty and cutoff for this specific date cannot be set until the shifts are actually conducted, so the confirmed pattern above is what candidates have to plan around for now. Meeting the qualifying percentage is only the first threshold, since final selection also depends on PET, document verification, and medical clearance. Checking the admit card and reporting details early matters as much as revision at this stage.
