TNPSC Group 1 Eligibility 2025: Age limit, Qualification, & Attempts

TNPSC Group 1 eligibility criteria are listed in the official notification for TNPSC Group 1 Exam released by the TNPSC. It includes age limit and relaxation, educational qualification, number of attempts, and, for some posts, physical requirements, etc.

Graduate applicants who are in the age group of 21-34 years and have the knowledge of Tamil language can apply for TNPSC Group 1 Exam. However, some relaxation is given in the age limit for certain categories.

In TNPSC Group I-B and I-C Exam, the maximum age limit varies from 32-42 years for different posts.

TNPSC Group 1 Age Limit and Relaxation

A candidate for this examination must have attained the age criteria as prescribed below:-

  • Minimum age limit: 21 years
  • Upper age limit: 34 years (he/she must not have completed 34 years of age).
    • The only exception is if the candidate has a Bachelor of Law degree, then he/she can apply for the post of Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes) till 35 years of age.
  • Upper age relaxation in age will be given to candidates as follows:
    • The only exception is if the candidate belongs to the categories which are mentioned below in the table and has a Bachelor of Law degree, then he/she can apply for Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes) till 40 years of age.

TNPSC Group 1 Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for the TNPSC CCSE Group I Exam must possess the following degrees from a government-recognized university or institute.

TNPSC Group 1 Tamil Language Knowledge

Candidates must have adequate knowledge of Tamil Language and have to upload/produce either:

  • SSLC / HSC / Degree / PG Degree mark sheets, OR
  • proof of having passed the Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.

TNPSC Group 1 Number of attempts

There is no limit on the number of attempts. A candidate can apply until he/she fulfills all the eligibility requirements.

TNPSC Group 1 Physical Standards

The candidate should be physically fit according to the terms and conditions of the Medical Board in Tamil Nadu.

The Commission dictates some physical requirements for Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category-1) and District Officer (Fire and Rescue Service) posts. The details for each post are given below.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category-1): The requirements for men and women are different and given in the table.

If any candidate fails to meet any of the criteria mentioned above, his/her application form is rejected. The TNPSC group 1 admit cards are released only for the candidates whose applications are successfully accepted.

Ques. Is there any relaxation in the age limit to the categories other than general ?

Ans. Yes, age relaxation of 5 years is provided to the different categories which are other than general category.

Ques. Are there any physical requirements for any post of TNPSC Group I Exam ?

Ans. Yes, physical requirements are required for two posts of TNPSC Group I Exam: Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category-1) and District Officer (Fire and Rescue Service). There are parameters for height, weight and chest in the above mentioned posts.

Ques. Can a domicile of any other state apply for TNPSC Group 1 ?

Ans. Any Indian citizen can apply for TNPSC Group 1 but they must have a strong hold over Tamil and English languages. There are questions in the exam that require translation from Tamil to English and vice versa. This section is mandatory and the candidates failing to clear it will not be selected.

Ques. Is a National Award for physical efficiency necessary for a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category-1) post ?

Ans. No, it is not mandatory to have a National Award for physical efficiency for the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category-1). However, the candidates with the mentioned degree will be given preference over the candidates without it.
