BPSC syllabus not only covers broad areas like history, geography, polity, economy, science, and current affairs but also includes a special focus on Bihar’s history, geography, and socio-economic conditions. In the Mains exam, candidates also have to prepare for descriptive papers, including General Hindi, Essay, General Studies Papers, and one Optional Subject.

BPSC Prelims Syllabus 2025

BPSC Prelims Exam 2025 consists of one General Studies (GS) paper carrying 150 marks with a duration of 2 hours. The exam is objective (MCQs) and serves as a screening test for the Mains. While its marks are not counted in the final merit, scoring well is crucial to qualify.

The syllabus of the Prelims is designed to test a candidate’s general knowledge and awareness of national and international events, history, polity, geography, economy, science, and reasoning. Special importance is given to Bihar’s history, geography, and socio-economic conditions, making it state-focused.

  3. History of India and Bihar

    • Ancient, medieval, and modern Indian history.
    • Social, economic, and political changes across different periods.
    • Role of Bihar in the Indian Freedom Struggle:
      • 1857 Revolt in Bihar.
      • Champaran Satyagraha of 1917 (led by Mahatma Gandhi).
      • Quit India Movement of 1942.
    • Important leaders, reformers, and cultural movements from Bihar.

  4. Geography of India and Bihar
    • Physical geography: mountains, rivers, climate, vegetation, and natural resources.

BPSC Mains Syllabus 2025

BPSC Mains Exam 2025 is the second stage of the recruitment process and plays a decisive role in the final selection. Unlike the prelims, this exam is descriptive in nature, and the marks scored here are counted towards the final merit list (except the qualifying Hindi paper).

The Mains consists of four compulsory papers and one optional subject paper. Each paper is descriptive and carries a duration of 3 hours.

General Hindi (Qualifying Paper)

  • This paper carries 100 marks.
  • Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks (30 marks for General Category; relaxation for reserved categories).
  • Marks of this paper are not added to the final merit list, but failing to qualify leads to disqualification.
