The candidates will be chosen based on a written test and a physical fitness test (PFT). The objective-type questions on the written test will be separated into two sections: science and mathematics, and general knowledge. The examination will be multilingual (Hindi and English). All applicants who are taking the written test must also take the PFT on the same day.
The Indian Navy MR merit list will be compiled based on the written examination results, subject to passing the qualifying Physical Fitness Test (PFT). Based on state-wise merit, about 300 applicants will be granted call-up letters for the Enrolment Medical Examination at INS Chilka.

The cut-off marks for the February 2026 or July 2026 batch may not exactly match the previous year's cut-off as it depends on various factors like the number of vacancies, the number of candidates appearing for the exam, the previous year's cut-off, etc.
During the first training phase, the chosen students would be paid a stipend of INR 14,600 per month. After completing the course, the applicants would be assigned to level 3 of the defence pay matrix, which ranges from INR 21,700 to INR 69,100.
Pay and Allowance: A monthly stipend of INR 14,600 would be available throughout the first training session.
