NDA 2026 Tie-Breaking Policy

UPSC follows predefined criteria for breaking ties in case two or more candidates score the same marks. The details about tie-breaking principles are as follows:

  • Equal marks but different ages: In case, two candidates have equal aggregate marks, the candidate senior in age is placed at a higher rank. For instance, if the total marks (written exam + SSB) of two candidates is 952, then the candidate who is older will be given a higher/better rank.
  • Same age and marks: When both candidates have the same age and the same aggregate marks, the candidate getting a higher aggregate score in written papers will be placed at a higher rank. For instance, in the scenario below, Candidate A will get a higher rank because his marks in the written exam are higher than the marks obtained by Candidate B.
Particulars Candidate A Candidate B
Marks in written exam 519 438
Marks in SSB 456 537
Total Aggregate Marks 975 975
Rank Higher Rank Lower Rank

Candidates who qualify NDA 2026 written exam will need to download their SSB Interview call letter from the official UPSC website once it is released.
