SSC CGL Syllabus 2024 has 2 Tiers. In Tier 1, You get questions from Quantitative Aptitude, GI and Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Comprehension. In Tier 2, you get questions from Quantitative Aptitude, Mathematical Ability, General Awareness, English language, and Statistics.

The Tier 1 exam is qualifying in nature. You get 1 hour to finish the exam. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks in it. In Tier 2, you have to take paper 1 as it is compulsory for all posts. To complete this paper, you will be given 2 hours. The candidates clearing both the stages of SSC CGL exam will be provisionally recommended.

SSC CGL Preparation Tips

  • For best results, you should prepare for at least 7-8 months. This should include completing the syllabus and practicing mock tests and sample questions.
  • You must study Maths for 3-3.5 hours everyday as the syllabus is vast and requires regular practice.
  • For the English section, take out 2-2.5 hrs.
  • Read a page of Vocabulary, Idioms and Antonyms/ Synonyms everyday. Then revise them 4-5 times daily.
  • It is imperative to cover more than 80% of the syllabus thoroughly to do well in the exams.
  • Once you have finished a chapter from any subject, take a sectional test and aim for 80-85% marks.
  • In the last 30 days before the exam, revise your notes for at least 3-4 hrs everyday for better retention.
  • While taking Mock Tests, you must aim for a score of 160+ along with a percentile around 95.
  • You must solve a total of at least 40 mock tests before appearing for the exam.
  • Take quizzes of the mixed set questions and solve at least 15-20 questions every day.
  • Don’t take the typing test lightly, start preparing for it along with your Tier 2 preparations.
  • The required speed for Typing Test is 30 WPS but you should aim for the speed of 40-45 WPS.
  • Based on the analysis of last few years’ vacancies, number of candidates qualifying for Tier 2, and the normalised cutoff marks of Tier 1- we can say that 130 would be a safe score (assuming that the difficulty level would be the same as last year).

SSC CGL Exam Day Pointers

  • While solving the question paper in the exam, take 2 attempts to solve the paper. In the first attempt- solve the short and easy questions that you’re are confident of. Then in the second attempt, solve the rest of the questions according to the remaining time.
  • In the second attempt, answer the questions about which you have some idea only.
  • Don’t attempt questions that you are clueless about as the wrong answers have negative marking.
  • The best order to solve in the Tier 1 exam is- Reasoning and General Intelligence, Quantitative Abilities, General Awareness and lastly, English Language.
