Importance

AFCAT Exam Pattern

Knowing the structure makes each old paper more useful. AFCAT has one common test for all branches, and Ground Duty (Technical) aspirants sit an extra EKT. Read the AFCAT syllabus alongside for the full topic list.

Paper Questions Marks Duration
AFCAT (all branches) 100 300 2 hours
EKT (Technical only) 50 150 45 minutes

Marking is 3 marks for a correct answer and 1 mark deducted for a wrong one, with the paper set in English across four sections: Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning and Military Aptitude, and General Awareness.

Important and High Weightage AFCAT Topics

Certain topics turn up in nearly every AFCAT sitting. Solving old papers helps you find them fast, so give these extra revision time.

  1. Verbal Ability in English: error spotting, synonyms and antonyms, cloze test, sentence completion, comprehension.
  2. Numerical Ability: percentage, ratio, average, time and work, profit and loss, simple and compound interest.
  3. Reasoning and Military Aptitude: analogy, coding decoding, blood relations, series, rotated and embedded figures.
  4. General Awareness: defence and IAF general knowledge, current affairs, history, geography, sports, awards.

Best Books for AFCAT Preparation

Pair the papers with a few trusted books for concept building. These titles cover every AFCAT section and the EKT for technical aspirants.

AFCAT Preparation Tips

A simple routine turns old papers into steady score gains. Build practice around timed sets and regular revision, and add AFCAT mock test attempts as the exam nears.

  • Finish the syllabus once, then solve one full paper every few days.
  • Attempt each set within two hours to build real exam stamina.
  • Read the last six months of current affairs for General Awareness.
  • Review every paper against the answer key and log weak topics.
  • Focus on accuracy, since blind guessing pulls the score down.

AFCAT rewards timed practice more than long hours of reading. Download the year wise papers above, solve them under exam conditions, and score each attempt honestly against the answer key. Keep revising the recurring topics, and the links below take you to more AFCAT resources on Prepp.
