AFCAT exam pattern stayed the same across both 2025 sessions, and it is a good baseline for the AFCAT exam pattern you can expect in AFCAT 2 2026 as well. Knowing the structure below helps you plan how much time to give each section.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Question Type | Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) |
| Total Questions | 100 |
| Total Marks | 300 |
| Duration | 120 minutes |
| Sections Covered | General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning and Military Aptitude |
| Marking Scheme | +3 for correct, -1 for wrong, 0 for unattempted |
Reasoning and Military Aptitude carried the most questions across both 2025 sessions, which made it the single biggest scoring opportunity on the paper.
| Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General Awareness | 25 | 75 |
| Verbal Ability in English | 25 | 75 |
| Numerical Ability | 18 | 54 |
| Reasoning and Military Aptitude | 32 | 96 |
| Total | 100 | 300 |
Cover every topic listed on AFCAT syllabus before attempting your first mock.
Both AFCAT 2025 sessions came in at an overall moderate difficulty, but the two papers pulled their difficulty from different sections. Reviewing what candidates actually found hard in each session gives you a sharper practice target than the syllabus alone.
General Awareness leaned heavily on current affairs, Numerical Ability ran long on calculation, and Reasoning came out as the easiest section of the two days.
| Section | Difficulty | Key Observation |
|---|---|---|
| General Awareness | Moderate | Current affairs driven, manageable for prepared candidates |
| Numerical Ability | Moderate to Tough | Calculation heavy, time consuming |
| Verbal Ability in English | Easy to Moderate | Comprehension was long but easy to follow |
| Reasoning and Military Aptitude | Easy | Most candidates rated this the easiest section |
The August session felt slightly gentler than February on English, but Numerical Ability stayed tough and Reasoning turned out trickier than candidates expected going in.
| Section | Difficulty | Key Observation |
|---|---|---|
| General Awareness | Moderate | Statement based questions dominated |
| Numerical Ability | Moderate to Tough | Speed-distance, profit-loss and number system were calculative |
| Verbal Ability in English | Easy | Easier than recent past papers as per candidate feedback |
| Reasoning and Military Aptitude | Moderate | Questions were trickier than the February session |
Good attempts tell you how many questions to target with real accuracy, not how many to guess at. Since every wrong answer costs a mark, both 2025 sessions rewarded candidates who stayed selective rather than attempting everything.
| Session | Overall Good Attempts |
|---|---|
| AFCAT 1 2025 (February) | 65 to 75 out of 100 |
| AFCAT 2 2025 (August) | 65 to 70 out of 100 |
The same set of topics kept coming back across both 2025 sessions. Building your revision list around these gives you the best return on preparation time before the next AFCAT cycle.
| Section | Important Topics |
|---|---|
| General Awareness | Current affairs, defence news, history, geography, sports, art and culture |
| Verbal Ability in English | Reading comprehension, error detection, synonyms and antonyms, idioms and phrases |
| Numerical Ability | Time speed and distance, profit and loss, number system, ratio and mixture, simple interest |
| Reasoning and Military Aptitude | Verbal and non-verbal reasoning, spatial ability, military aptitude situational questions |
Candidates applying for the Ground Duty Technical branch sit an additional paper called the Engineering Knowledge Test, right after the main AFCAT paper. It is scored and timed separately, so technical branch aspirants need to prepare for it on its own.
| Parameter | AFCAT Paper | EKT Paper |
|---|---|---|
| Questions | 100 | 50 |
| Marks | 300 | 150 |
| Duration | 2 hours | 45 minutes |
| Subjects | GA, English, Numerical, Reasoning | Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics |
Clearing the AFCAT written paper is only the first step. Candidates who cross the cutoff move through three more stages before a final offer, and each one carries its own separate evaluation.
1. AFCAT written exam, cleared candidates get an AFSB call letter.
2. AFSB Stage 1, Officer Intelligence Rating test and Picture Perception and Discussion Test.
3. AFSB Stage 2, psychological tests, group tasks and a personal interview over several days.
4. Medical examination as per Indian Air Force standards.
5. Final merit list and course allotment based on overall performance.
AFCAT cutoff moves with the number of vacancies, the paper difficulty and how many candidates appear that session, so it is never a fixed number from year to year. The table below shows the broad range the cutoff has moved in in past cycles. For the confirmed AFCAT 2025 cutoff, check the AFCAT cutoff page.
| Cycle | Approximate Cutoff Range (out of 300) |
|---|---|
| 2021 | 155 to 165 |
| 2022 | 150 to 157 |
| 2023 | 150 to 155 |
| 2024 | 135 to 140 |
These figures are indicative and vary by branch, since Flying, Technical and Non-Technical posts each get their own cutoff line.
AFCAT 2025 Question Paper with Answer Key is an important resource for candidates preparing for upcoming AFCAT examinations. It helps aspirants understand the latest exam pattern, question difficulty, and frequently asked topics. Practising these Previous Year Memory Based papers enables candidates to evaluate their performance, identify weak areas, and improve their preparation strategy for future AFCAT attempts. Following these up with a full length AFCAT mock test puts that strategy under live exam pressure, letting candidates lock in their pacing across all four sections before the actual test day.
Ques: Does the AFCAT 2025 question paper stay the same across every shift?
Ans: No. Each shift gets its own set of questions, though the section split and difficulty stay close. Solving papers from more than one shift gives you a wider spread of question types to practise
Ques: Is the AFCAT 2025 question paper on this page the official paper released by IAF?
Ans: No. The Indian Air Force does not release the actual paper publicly. These are memory based papers rebuilt from candidate recall, so treat small gaps as normal and focus on the pattern and topics.
Ques: How many years of AFCAT question papers should a candidate solve before the next session?
Ans: Solving the last three to four sessions gives a solid picture of the current pattern. Add older years if you have time left, but review every paper fully before moving to the next one.
Ques: Do the AFCAT 2025 question papers help candidates preparing for the EKT as well?
Ans: Not directly. The AFCAT papers on this page cover only the four common sections. Technical branch candidates need separate EKT practice on top of these papers.
Ques:Will the AFCAT 2 2026 question paper follow the same difficulty as the 2025 papers?
Ans: The Air Force has kept the 100 question, 300 mark structure steady for several cycles, so the 2025 papers remain solid practice. Difficulty can still shift slightly session to session based on the candidate pool.
