IBPS RRB Eligibility 2026 defines the conditions that candidates must fulfill to apply for the Common Recruitment Process (CRP RRBs XIV) for Regional Rural Banks. The recruitment covers multiple posts, including Office Assistant (Multipurpose) and Officers in Scales I, II, and III. Each post has separate requirements for nationality, age, educational qualification, work experience, and proficiency in the local language and candidates must ensure these are fulfilled while filling IBPS RRB application form.

IBPS RRB Nationality and Citizenship Criteria 2026

To be eligible for IBPS RRB 2026, a candidate must satisfy the nationality or citizenship requirements set by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. A candidate must be one of the following:

  1. A citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam, with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates belonging to categories (2) to (5) above must produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India at the time of selection.

IBPS RRB Age Limit 2026

IBPS has defined different age limits for each post under IBPS RRB 2026 recruitment. The age is calculated as on September 1, 2026. Candidates must ensure they fall within the prescribed age range for the post they are applying for.

The above limits apply to candidates from the General and EWS categories. Relaxations are available for candidates belonging to reserved categories, which are explained in the next section.

IBPS RRB Age Relaxation 2026

IBPS RRB age relaxations are applicable as per Government of India guidelines and vary depending on the category. Candidates must produce valid certificates to claim the relaxation benefits.

IBPS RRB Educational Qualification and Experience 2026

IBPS RRB educational qualification and work experience requirements vary depending on the post. Candidates must hold a degree from a recognized university or institution and, for some posts, have relevant professional experience. The eligibility is considered as of the last date of online registration.

Minimum 5 years as an officer in a bank or financial institution

IBPS RRB Language Proficiency

For Officer Scale I and Office Assistant (Multipurpose) posts, proficiency in the local language of the state or union territory where the Regional Rural Bank (RRB) is located is a mandatory requirement.

A candidate will be considered proficient in the local language if they meet any one of the following conditions:

  • They studied the local language as a subject in Class 8 or above in a recognized board or institution.
  • They hold a certificate proving their knowledge of the local language at Class 8 or higher level.

If a candidate does not meet the above conditions at the time of selection, the RRB allows them a maximum period of six months from the date of joining to acquire proficiency in the local language. This period may be extended within the probation period, as per the bank’s rules.

Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

Under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, IBPS RRB 2026 provides reservation benefits to candidates with benchmark disabilities. A “benchmark disability” means a disability of 40% or more, as certified by a competent medical authority.

The following categories of disabilities are considered for reservation:

  1. Visual Impairment (VI) – Includes blindness and low vision.
  2. Hearing Impairment (HI) – Includes deafness and hard of hearing.
  3. Locomotor Disability (LD) / Orthopedic Disability (OC) – Includes cerebral palsy, dwarfism, muscular dystrophy, leprosy cured persons, acid attack victims, spinal deformity/injury, etc.
  4. Intellectual Disability (ID) – Includes autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disabilities (like dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia), and mental illness.
  5. Multiple Disabilities – A combination of the above categories.

Candidates with benchmark disabilities are eligible for scribe/compensatory time facilities if they face functional limitations in writing. They must provide a valid disability certificate or UDID card as per government norms.

Ex-Servicemen Eligibility (Office Assistant)

Ex-Servicemen (ESM) quota is applicable only for the post of Office Assistant (Multipurpose) under IBPS RRB 2026. The eligibility is defined as per the Government of India guidelines.

  • Ex-Servicemen (ESM): Candidates who have served in the Armed Forces of the Union and were released as per the rules laid down by the Government of India.
  • Disabled Ex-Servicemen (DESM): Ex-servicemen who were disabled during service in operations against the enemy or in disturbed areas.
  • Dependents of Servicemen killed in action: Includes widows, sons, daughters, or near relatives who support the family.

Important Points

  • Ex-servicemen released/retired from Armed Forces must provide a discharge certificate or prescribed certificate formats given in the notification.
  • Candidates still in service and applying under the Ex-servicemen category must submit proof that their service is due to end on or before 20 September 2026.
  • The Territorial Army personnel will also be treated as Ex-servicemen (w.e.f. 15 November 1986).
  • Once an Ex-serviceman joins a civilian job under the Central Government after availing benefits, his Ex-servicemen status will be governed by Government rules.

Eligibility for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Candidates

IBPS RRB 2026 provides reservation for candidates belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as per the Government of India guidelines. Candidates applying under this category must meet the following conditions:

  • The family’s gross annual income must be below ₹8.00 lakh. Income includes salary, agriculture, business, profession, etc., for the financial year prior to the year of application.
  • Candidates whose families own or possess any of the following assets will not be considered as EWS, regardless of income:
    • 5 acres or more of agricultural land
    • Residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. or more
    • Residential plot of 100 sq. yards or more in notified municipalities
    • Residential plot of 200 sq. yards or more in areas other than notified municipalities

To claim EWS reservation, candidates must produce a valid Income and Asset Certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed Government format. The certificate must be valid as on the date of document verification or interview.
