CSIR NET June 2026 Notification is expected to be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in June 2026. Candidates interested in the exam can apply online through the official NTA website by filling out the application form, uploading required documents, and paying the application fee. The selection process involves a Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of multiple-choice questions. Based on the exam performance, candidates are shortlisted for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship/Assistant Professor positions in various fields of science.
CSIR NET, abbreviation of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Eligibility Test, is a national-level eligibility test for the qualification for Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship in the fields of science and technology. CSIR NET Notification for June 2026 session will be released on NTA’s official website soon. Important information such as exam date, syllabus, and eligibility criteria will also be released alongside the notification. Candidates can register themselves in the application portal through their email ID.
Educational qualification and age criteria are the major eligibility parameters for CSIR NET June 2026. Any candidates failing to meet CSIR NET eligibility criteria might be rejected or disqualified.
Masters: Candidates must have qualified for their master's in the related subjects with a minimum percentage to apply for CSIR NET June 2026. Candidates who are currently enrolled in masters can also apply under the condition that graduation is completed within 2 years from the date of declaration of CSIR NET result. In case of qualification for PhD only, candidates must complete the master's within 1 year. Check the table below for the minimum Master's percentage for different categories:

4-year Undergraduate Degree: Candidates in the final semester of 4 4-year bachelor’s degree program can apply for JRF and PhD only through CSIR NET under the condition that their minimum aggregate is 75 %. They must fulfil all the parameters within 2 years in case of JRF and within 1 year in case of PhD only.
Note: Candidates who are only qualified with a 4-year undergraduate degree are not eligible for the role of Assistant Professor.
There is no upper age limit for the qualification of lectureship and PhD, only for CSIR NET June 2026. However, upper age limit applies to JRF.
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
Total combined relaxation across categories must not exceed 5 years.
CSIR NET application process will start soon on the official portal. Candidates can follow the steps below to complete the application process:
Step 1: Go to the official website csirnet.nta.ac.in. Under the latest news section, click on the “Joint CSIR-UGC NET June 2026: Registration”.
Step 2: Fill in the basic information asked, while clicking on the “New Registration” option. Create a strong password and submit the registration form. Candidates will receive an Application number after this process. Note it down for future reference.
Step 3: Continue the application process right away or later, by logging in with the application number and password. Upload the following details:
Step 4: Upload the required documents in the required formats. Photographs should be between 10 kb and 200 kb. Signature should be between 4 kb and 30 kb. Use image-compressing websites like Squoosh and TinyPNG for compression. Upload other necessary documents as well.
Step 5: After completing the application form, candidates should proceed with the payment. The payment mode is online and can be done through credit card, debit card, net banking or UPI. The application fee for various categories are given in the table below:

Step 1: Go to the official website csirnet.nta.ac.in and click on the “Provisional Answer Key and Challenge Invitation” link.
Step 2: Provide your credentials in the box and click submit.

Ques: Can foreign nationals write CSIR NET June 2026?
Ans: Foreign nationals can write CSIR NET, but the consideration will only be for the role of lectureship and not Junior Research Fellowship. Factors like degree equivalence will be considered.
Ques: Can Arts Majors give CSIR NET Exam?
Ans: CSIR NET is generally not open to Arts Majors as it covers the science field and requires the candidate to have a Master’s or other equivalent qualification from Science field.
Ques: Do all CSIR NET subjects have negative marking?
Ans: No, not all the subjects have negative marking for CSIR NET. Though a 25% deduction is the most common scheme, its occurrence and percentage vary according to the subject, especially for Part C.
Ques: Can I apply for Assistant Professor if I qualify for JRF?
Ans: Yes, you are qualified for the role of Assistant Professor if you qualify for JRF. However, an Assistant Professor qualification alone won't grant you JRF.
Ques: Do the exams of all five subjects happen on the same day?
Ans: Considering the recent schedules, exams of all the subjects usually happen on the same day in different shifts.
Ques: How many attempts can be written for CSIR NET?
Ans: There is no limitation on the number of attempts for CSIR NET. One can try as many attempts within the age limit ( in case of JRF).
Ques: What is the validity of JRF certificate?
Ans: JRF certificates of CSIR NET are valid for a period of 2 years. If candidates fail to take on the fellowship before the period, the fellowship will become invalid.
Ques: Can I apply for CSIR NET without a Master's degree?
Ans: A Master's Degree is generally required to apply for CSIR NET. However, if you've completed/ shall complete the 4-year bachelor’s programme with a minimum of 75%, you are eligible. This eligibility does not apply to the Assistant Professor role.
Ques: What happens if I don't complete post post-graduation/4-year degree graduation within the deadline?
Ans: Failing to meet the qualification conditions even after securing CSIR NET will result in disqualification
