SSC CGL Selection Process 2026 includes three stages: Tier 1, Tier 2, and Document Verification. Both tiers are computer-based exams, and candidates must appear in all stages to qualify. The minimum qualifying marks are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for other categories. Tier 1 is compulsory to qualify for Tier 2, while Tier 2 scores determine final merit. According to the SSC CGL 2026 official notification, the exam pattern has been revised, and Paper 3 has been discontinued, with Tier 2 now comprising only Paper 1 and Paper 2.

SSC CGL Selection Process 2026

SSC CGL 2026 selection process comprises mainly two stages. SSC CGL Exam is conducted in two stages: Tier 1 and Tier 2. You must clear all the stages to qualify for the particular post of SSC CGL. You will have to clear Tier 1 to appear for the Tier 2 exam.

  • Tier 1: Computer-Based Examination
  • Tier 2: Computer-Based Examination
  • Tier 2 will include conducting Paper 1 and Paper 2 in separate shifts/ day(s).
  • Paper 1 is compulsory for all the posts.
  • Paper 2 is only for those candidates who have applied for the Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) post in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and qualified for the Tier 1 exam.
  • Paper 1 will be conducted in two sessions – Session 1 & Session 2, on the same day. Session 1 will include conducting Section 1, Section 2, and Module 1 of Section 3. Session 2 will include conducting Module 2 of Section 3. Therefore, the duration of Session 1 will be 2 hours and 15 minutes, and the duration of Session 2 will be 15 minutes only.

SSC CGL Selection Process 2026: Tier 1

SSC CGL exam date for Tier 1 is released by SSC on its official website.

  • It is a computer-based examination.
  • It consists of objective MCQ questions.
  • The Tier 1 exam is conducted in multiple shifts.
  • Normalization of scores is followed for this as the exam is conducted in multiple shifts.
  • Except for English Comprehension, all the questions are in English as well as in Hindi.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

SSC CGL Selection Process 2026: Tier 2 

  • There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section 1, Section 2 and Module 1 of Section 3 of Paper 1 and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper 2.
  • Candidates eligible for scribe will get an extra 20 minutes for 1 hour time. 
  • Paper 1 is compulsory for all the posts. Paper 2 is for only JSO Post.
  • Tier 2 will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions except for DEST Test. 

SSC CGL Tier 2- Paper 1 Exam Pattern

For Session 1

There will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section 1, Section 2, and Module 2 of Section 3 of Paper 1 and 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper 2 and Paper 3.The exam pattern is given below:

The exam pattern is given below:

  • Note 1: Module 2 of Section 3 of Paper 1 will include conducting of a Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) for a duration of 15 minutes in Session 2 on the same day. 
  • Note 2: The “Data Entry Speed Test” (DEST) Skill Test will be conducted for a passage of about 2000 (two thousand) key depressions for a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes. 
  • Note 3: DEST will be mandatory for all the posts; however, it will be qualifying in nature.
  • Note 4: It will be mandatory for the candidates to qualify for all the sections of Paper 1. 

Note-A: Paper 1 will include the following three sections, with two modules 

Section 1

  • Module 1: Mathematical Abilities 
  • Module 2: Reasoning and General Intelligence. 

Section 2

  • Module 1: English Language and Comprehension 
  • Module 2: General Awareness 

Section 3

  •  Module 1: Computer Knowledge Test 
  •  Module 2: Data Entry Speed Test

Note-B: Candidates eligible for scribe will get an extra 20 minutes for 1 hour time. 

Note-C: Paper 1 is compulsory for all the posts.

Note-D: The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English Comprehension. 

Note-E: Paper 1 will be conducted in two sessions - Session 1 & Session 2, on the same day. Session 1 will include conducting of Section 1, Section 2 and Module 1 of Section 3. Session 2 will include conducting of Module 2 of Section 3. Therefore, duration of Session 1 will be 2 hours and 15 minutes and duration of Session 2 will be 15 minutes only.

SSC CGL Tier 2 Paper 2 Exam Pattern

For the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation

SSC CGL Document Verification

After clearing all the tiers of selection, you have to appear for the Document Verification round. You must carry the originals and the photocopies of the following documents. Any candidate not bearing any of the required documents will be disqualified immediately. The candidates availing reservations must have adequate supportive documents or they will be considered under the General/ UR (Unreserved) criteria.

  • 2 recent passport-sized photographs
  • One original Photo-ID proof
  • Copy of Matriculation/ Secondary Certificate
  • Educational Qualification Certificate
  • Caste/ Category Certificate (if any)
  • Person with Disabilities Certificate (if any)
  • Serving Defence Personnel Certificate (if any)
  • Undertaking Certificate (Ex-servicemen) (if any)
  • Discharge Certificate (if any)
  • Relevant Certificate (if seeking age relaxation)
  • Certificate by the Central Government Civilian Employees
  • No Objection Certificate (if employed in Government/ Government undertakings)
  • Documents relevant to change of name (if any)
  • Any other document mentioned in the admission certificate/ call letter of Document Verification

The following documents are accepted for the identification of the candidates. They can carry the original copy of any one of the following.

  • Aadhar Card
  • Voter ID Card
  • PAN Card

  • Employer ID (Govt./ PSU)
  • Ex-Serviceman Discharge Book issued by the Ministry of Defence
  • Any other photocard issued by the Central/ State Government
Qualifying Marks

SSC CGL Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum required marks to pass the Tiers 1, 2, and 3 of SSC CGL are given in the table below. However, minimum qualifying marks are different from cutoff marks. They don’t guarantee a candidate’s eligibility into the next round of selection. He/she will be called for the next round only if they clear the cutoff marks.

SSC CGL 2026: Points to Remember

  1. In the Computer-Based Examination conducted in multiple shifts (Tier 1), the normalization of score is followed. The cutoff marks are also determined using the normalized score.
  2. There is no provision for the reevaluation or re-checking and no requests regarding the same are entertained.
  3. After the exam is conducted, the authorities release the tentative SSC CGL answer key for the Computer-Based Examinations. The candidates having objections to the answer keys can submit their online representations and pay the fee of INR 100 per question within the given time limit.
  4. The representation must be made only through the link on the official website. No other mode of submission like letter, email, etc. will not be accepted.

Ques. Is there no interview in SSC CGL exam 2026?

Ans. No, according to the notification released in 2016, the interview process has been removed from the selection process. The candidates now have to appear for a skill-based test which consists of either Computer Proficiency Test or Data Entry Skill Test, based on the post applied for.

Ques. How many attempts are there is SSC CGL exam 2026?

Ans. There is no limit for the number of attempts in SSC CGL exam. You can appear in the exam as many times as you wish as long as you fulfill all the eligibility criteria.
